Very professional and enthusiastic people are working behind the scenes at Name.com.

Not only do they provide excellent domain name management, but they have great deals and some innovative features that other registrars don’t have.

User friendly interface, great prices, easy transfers. Thumbs up!

Hello guys.
After my recent dealings with name.com I felt I should post here so that others can avoid the disgusting service I received.

So the story. I sold domains which had expired already (my mistake for which I take full responsibility). Thus on pushing the domains, and prior to pushing the domains they were dissapearing from mine and my buyers accounts before they could renew them. Problem!

Off an email went to name.com support. No reply. I had to phone their UK office where I was helped by a very nice man: Caleb. Kudos to him.

Names were reappearing in peoples accounts and they were thus able to renew them.

A buyer then asked me to find out the renewal price of a domain. I added it to my cart, clicked continue, and then proceeded to receive an invoice for 3 domains, 2 of which I did B]NOT own,,,
I was asked at NO point to authorize the payment. I received 1 page, on which I clicked continue assuming I would be taken to a shopping cart with a price… Nothing!

So anyway the problem with me selling already expired names was one between me and my buyers. Providing the names were visible in the respective accounts, everything could be sorted.

I then received a forwarded email from a name.com Representative (Jennifer) documenting a conversation between herself and one of my buyers where they had discussed my business.

She suggested to the recipient that I wanted him to pay me $18 for the renewal of two domains I had renewed when they were in his account not mine. I had however clearly asked name.com to refund me as it was an error with their site.
Essentially the interference of Jennifer made the situation significantly worse: as though I was begging for money from my buyer when I was not at all!

Another awful thing about name.com, shrunken to save me time. When I asked for a list of my domains, I was told I couldn’t have them, and would have to compile it myself from my old invoices because they didn’t keep archives. In reality the names were in the redemption status with my whois still, in their ‘EXPIRED’ account… they just couldn’t be bothered to look it seems.

Next I received a phone call from Jennifer. I was essentially told that I was lieing about renewing domains which were not in my account (I was not), that I had mislead my buyers (is that any of her business), and that all my practices were bad.
I gave up. Decided, I would just renew the names for my buyers, save myself time and effort, take the losses for the sake of my reputation.

Off I went to renew, and what do I see. My cart containing a domain that I didn’t own! A screenshot was taken, and emailed. I now had categorical proof that name.coms system was flawed, and that they had without reason called me a lier.

Probably the most disgusting service I have ever seen, and even worse support. What is more, I asked that I was not phoned again. I return home to be told ‘That woman from America is calling again’.

name.com has messed me around, exaggerated a small error on my part, harassed me, cost me a lot of money, ripped me off… the list goes on.

With the likes of Godaddy on the web, I am surprised to say this myself, but name.com are the WORST registrar I have ever seen, and I am getting everything out of there asap.

Do the same if you value your domains.

Name.com is connected with DomainSite.com in some way that I don’t fully understand. I have been with Domain site for a couple of years and during that time I have had a couple problems with their system doing some odd things. I’m just glad I didn’t try pushing any expired domains to someone else…! :-) But overall their service and responsiveness have been good. They are the only domain registrar that I know about that will suspend a domain if that domain is reported for SPAM. I know, be because the syspended one of my domains once. No, I did not send any spam!

When I first heard about Name.com they were new and letting people register names for $5.99! So I registereed quite a few before that ended. Domainsite used to be $6.99 for the first year, then $7.99, but those days seem to be gone.

No support issues with Name.com, but I can say the UI is like Domainsite’s, but a better version. If Name.com and Domain site are the same company, they are my top choice at this time.

Hello All,

Thanks for you comments, questions, and impressions.

Chris…
To answer your wonderings about Name.com and Domainsite.com, we are sister companies with the same owner and we share some of the same infrastructure, but we are two separate, ICANN accredited registrars. You may see pricing differences for the same product, and there are obvious difference between the two interfaces.

Both registrars do have strict SPAM and phishing protocols as part of their registration agreements. Sure, some registrars do look the other way or have more relaxed policies, but SPAM and phisihing policies are standard among most accredited registrars, and are there to protect not just those who may be on the receiving end of SPAM, but other registrants as well.

That said, we have had customer who have attempted to use our webmail services to send out bulk emails and have been limited because of our SPAM policies. It’s understandably frustrating and it’s a tricky balance. It sounds like you may be better served by a mail service which supports sending bulk mailings. You may also benefit greatly for the email services you can employ when you sign up for Google Apps, for free!

Lastly Chris, yes, prices have certainly changed. The domain industry isn’t spared any of the financial concerns affecting global economies. There has been anticipation of registry price increases and we’ve been one of the lowest priced registrars for a long time. But the fact is, not only have registry prices increased, so have the operating costs that impact any business, and it became impossible to continue offering domains below cost.
We’re confident we still offer some of the best prices out there, combined with a sleek interface and registration options and an incredible support staff.

To address the comments and interpretations of Tom, it’s not appropriate to present a he said/she said of a particular incident. Tom is certainly entitled to is recollections and unfortunately there’s still animosity. The two courtesy phone calls Tom received were placed by me in an attempt to bridge some of the questions and usurp the conflict apparent in the email correspondence. Name.com has real people behind it, and it seemed that a personal call would better serve everyone. We enjoy serving our customers personally, globally.

To be clear for those individuals who may buy or sell domains: an expired domain is an expired domain. Name.com wholeheartedly discourages anyone from selling an expired domain, as occurred in this instance, regardless of what may or may not be the potential buyers understanding of the sale. Potential buyers are encouraged to conduct due dilligence and verify the status of the domains they may purchase.

The domain game is a colorful and ever changing one. Name.com invites you all to contact us anytime with your suggestions, musings, raves or rants. We’re growing by leaps and bounds, but we’re still small enough to really care.

Name has been a great registrar for me despite a few glitches. I love the free whois privacy and the reasonable pricing. I am worried about no support on the weekends as I had a deposit go that didn’t get added to my account for an entire weekend because their panel can be buggy and no support was there sadly. Despite that I’m still pretty happy with service and phone calls get handled immediately.

Good registrar and competitive pricing.

I have, though, given the following feedback about their user interface, and am still waiting for their upgrade: The domain name management could be much, MUCH better. You currently cannot categorize domains, so all domains are found on a long list. If you have more than 100+ domains, the lack of management is maked it very inefficient to control your names. They’ve told me about upgrades to the interface about 3 months ago….Still Waiting.

The FREE WHOIS is a + for me.

Good registrar but with crowded interface. They should fix their interface to make it clean and fast. Support is good and promptly. But they do not use online ticketing system, and not 24/7.

I use name.com quite a lot, no complaints up until now. Minimalist design always works best for me. Especially when I compare name.com to godaddy in terms of design, name.com is by far ahead.
Pricing is good, mostly cheaper than others. They give away coupons from time to day. I had no problems at all with the security and I find Account Management Tools very easy to use. Free private whois is also a bonus.

I only have a couple of domains at name.com but so far have been very happy with them.

They are my default registrar company when GoDaddy.com jacks up their prices occasionally.

Happy and optimistic with them so far.

I recently moved bought a domain for a friedn from name.com and Im so happy I did choose them after my nightmares with GoDaddy. The price is now where comaprative when you get included privacy. Ease of management and speed of page load is excellent. I still havent had any support issues to judge here. Security, I still cannot tell.

All in all, I feel good and am happy about name.com and hope it wont let me down as I’m considering moving a bunch of domains from GoDaddy to them.

I’ve been registering domain names for nearly ten years. Name.com is the first registrar I’ve ever used that made me feel like it was a pleasure to work with them instead of a chore. I recommend them to all my friends.

After using Network Solutions, Register.com, Moniker and Dotster I firmly believe that Name.com will be the last registrar I ever use.

Name.com is my most favored registrar except for the two facts that they do not offer regular hosting and no loyalty rewards like GoDaddy does. When you reach a good number of domains it becomes pretty cumbersome to manage domains at 2 places - one registrar and another host. They assure to come up with something in a few months. The current rapid blog they offer is not really worth the cost ($24/year for a single domain even with a FREE .INFO or .IN thrown in).

I purchased several domains through them with no problem.

I was so impressed that I tried to transfer a domain from Directnic to Name.Com. The transfer failed for unknown reason. Sent two emails to their support email address and got no response at all. Still, I’m out the cost of the transfer and have not even an explanation of what to do. I would not use them again for a domain transfer.
