Register.com is really expensive, so it doesn’t make much sense to use unless you have only a couple domains.

Register.com’s account management tools don’t work well if you have a lot of domains. And $35 for domains??

They’re an ok registrar but they also make it a pain to transfer names away from them and I don’t know how it is now but earlier in the year I had to call them to transfer names away from them. Of course they offered to lower the prices at that point but I wasn’t biting.

Right down there with NSI. Shameful company.
You have to CALL them to get your authorization code so you can transfer out.
The prices are a rip off and I know of nothing that they have ever done to support the industry.

When I was young and foolish I assumed that you got what you paid for and tried register.com. Please don’t make the same mistake I did, they are expensive, hard to navigate and near imposable to deal with if your trying to get away from them.

All bad. In the domain world today, no reason at all to be with Register.com.
Too many other companies will give you anything you need - more control and less hand holding or less control and more hand holding.

Like Ralph, i had problems moving my domains from them.
They were forcing me to make an expensive international phone call to get my codes.
I thought the $35 would get me some support if i ever needed, but once I called them when moving my site’s host and the person on the phone did not have a clue.
No reason at all to register with them
I moved all my domains to godaddy and never looked back

Register is one of the oldest and largest registrars. All the domains I’ve had with them were registered long ago, back when $35/year was a pretty reasonable price. Their prices haven’t changed, and $35/year is now about 4X the industry standard. Their interface usability is unexceptional - better than some registrars, worse than others. I’ve only dealt with their security and support when trying to transfer domains to another registrar. Those transfer procedures were slow and cumbersome, more geared towards discouraging the transfer than facilitating it (delays, offers of price cuts). In my opinion, Register has nothing to offer new customers. Other registrars offer better services at far lower prices.

Being one of the first has allowed register.com to learn and grow. Their service is a bit more expensive however the company ensures that customers have their needs met. As the domain-name industry changes; register.com will have to move accordingly so we may see prices come in line with the bulk of registrars.

Overpriced and underserviced. And then they nail you with a scammy “reactivation fee” on top of their overpriced and underserviced regular registration fees if you let a domain expire - which is easy to do when it’s nigh-on impossible to transfer away from them.
Choose a reliable and respectable registrar - I recommend avoiding register.com. I can’t imagine they’re long for this world anyway!
